Pipex Infrastructure Solutions was born in February 2014 out of a dream of providing world-class products and solutions for the infrastructure development in Africa. Within the infrastructure sector, we chose to focus on Water and Sanitation.
Our dream was fashioned by the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) No. 7: "Environmental Sustainability", and the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 6: "Ensure access to water and sanitation for all".
MDG7 targets to halve the proportion of the population without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation by 2015 (from 1990 levels).
Clean, accessible water for all is an essential part of the world we want to live in. The essential pre-requisite to make this water accessible to all is by providing sustainable and long-lasting infrastructure. Simultaneously, investment in adequate sanitation infrastructure is another vital aspect which needs to be addressed to make the world a cleaner and more hygienic place to live in.
To improve access to drinking water and sanitation in developing countries within Sub-Saharan Africa, there is a need to invest in high-quality, long-lasting and sustainable infrastructure.
Pipex was created out of a firm conviction that we could provide a one-stop shop solution to all stakeholders involved in the water supply and sanitation infrastructure development in Sub-Saharan Africa.
This conviction was born out of:

- Complete Product Range: We offer a “One-Stop Shop” solution to buyers

When we started our operations in 2014, our first challenge was to deliver products to Oriental Construction Co. on a turnkey door-to-door delivery basis to remote Yei Town in the interiors of civil-war torn South Sudan. It was a project with huge challenges for our fledgling company and was a significant learning curve for us and we wish to thank all our partners for supporting us to successfully overcome all the challenges.
Ever since completing that first project, we felt confident that we had the capability to handle such challenges and our primary focus has been on trying to carve a niche for ourselves in the water supply and sanitation sector in eastern and Sub-Saharan Africa. In the course of the last 6 years we have made small but meaningful contributions towards the construction of some important water supply projects in East Africa.
We realised very quickly that it is vitally important to have a local face and a local presence in these markets. Over the course of the last year we have successfully launched partner offices in some countries to give a local face to our business.
Our first attempt towards moving to a more Pan-African project base was to secure a presence in Southern Africa. In 2018-2019, we have succeeded in achieving this goal when we secured two projects in Swaziland for Swazi Water Services Corporation for the construction of the Mbabane-Ezulwini Water Supply Project and Ezulwini Sustainable Water Supply Project.
Over the last 6 years, our footprints have been imprinted in the East African countries. In 2019, we had taken on a new goal to take our first steps into West Africa in 2020. We recently succeeded in achieving a significant breakthrough towards achieving this goal, when we signed the contract for the supply of DN 1200mm ductile iron pipes for the construction of a raw water transmission pipeline for Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) for a project financed by Millennium Challenge Corporation, USA. The project was completed and the pipeline was commissioned by end of 2020. In 2020, we also tasted success in securing our first project in Nigeria where we supplied DI pipes and fittings for the Bauchi State Water Supply Project. This project was also completed by the end of 2020.
2019-2020 was a huge breakthrough for us with our steel pipe business as we secured our first major project for the supply of SSAW Steel Pipes for a major water supply project in Tanzania. We successfully completed the supplies of more than 32 kilometers of DN 400mm epoxy lined - 3LPE coated steel pipes for Orkesumet Water Supply Project. The project is expected to be completed and commissioned by April 2021.
2020 also saw the first success in supply of geo-textiles and geo-grids, as we were able to secure the first project for the supply of the above projects to the Dodoma-Babati Road Project in Tanzania, being constructed by Chinese construction giants, Sino Hydro Corporation.
2020-2021 saw a world which has been dramatically affected by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic which has almost inevitably resulted in a huge slowdown in the execution of projects. African projects have also been affected by the outbreak of the pandemic. However, in spite of the pandemic, we have had moderate success in finding project markets in Southern Africa in 2021, having completed the supplies of DI pipes and fittings to three major projects in Malawi and Zambia. We also consolidated our position by securing the supplies of the DI pipes in four ongoing water projects for the Ministry of Water an Environment (MWE) in Uganda. We look forward with optimism towards 2022 with a number of major projects on the anvil.
The world is changing, and Africa's infrastructure development is rapidly catching up with the changing world. We think big, aim big, and achieve big. We partner with the world’s best to bring you a one-stop solution for all your infrastructure needs, because Africa deserves the best.
